A rubber belt moves the door with very little vibration, so the door runs smoothly and almost silently. Belt drives also need fewer repairs and last longer.
The most widely available and lowest-cost type. A metal chain moves the door along a rail. Chain drives are louder and need more maintenance.
Also called a jackshaft or side-mount opener. It mounts beside the door and connects to the spring tube. It is strong, good for heavy doors and frees your ceiling space.
